SPECIAL PURPOSE
3 piece Acoustic
Special Purpose is an acoustic trio of local musicians currently playing around the Indianapolis area. Their varied playing styles and tight vocal harmonies allow them to play a variety of songs from the 60s through today.
The group consists of:
Phillip Steven, formally of Long Distance, and currently with Phillip Steven and the Open Road on guitar, bass and vocals. Phil has had the opportunity to do shows recently with acts such as Trick Pony, The Charlie Daniels Band, Tracy Lawrence, Montgomery Gentry, Trace Adkins, Lonestar, Brad Paisley, John Michael Montgomery, Sons of the Desert, LeRoy Purnell, David Alan Coe, Joe Diffie, Bryan White, Collin Raye, Confederate Railroad and Ty Herndon.
Chris West on guitar and vocals, whose extensive career includes playing and recording 3 albums with Coven in the 70s (with their hit single 'One Tin Soldier'), touring and recording with Rocky Burnette, as the opening act for the Fleetwood Mac Rumors Tour, as well as The Doobie Brothers, Rush, and REO Speedwagon Through 1983, and playing on Shawn Phillips "Transcendence" album. Chris currently plays with Phillip Steven and the Open Road.
Joseph Shreve, formally of Under Fire and Southwind, and currently with Blonde Sonja and Natural Blonde on guitar, bass, mandolin, dobro and vocals. Joseph toured for about 8 years with Under Fire, in support of their album Flames on Vertebrae records. You can still occasionally hear Raise A Little Hell from the album on the radio. You might also have seen Joseph and Southwind on TNNs Prime Time Country.
